So. Cal Nonprofit Seeks to Transform Underserved Communities
Pomona, Calif. - Helping individuals overcome seemingly impossible situations has been the mission of Transcendence Children & Family Services for more than 20 years. As a dedicated community service organization, Transcendence is now expanding its borders and embracing a new vision to transform villages.
First named the Wilene's Re-Growth Center, Transcendence began as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit residential group home program providing training, support, and services to its foster children throughout the Pomona Valley. As the organization grew, Transcendence accomplished its mission through various programs, including the establishment of Children of the Village Foster Family Agency, Thompson Transitional House and Kinship Care Supportive Services. Today, the Transcendence name encompasses all that the organization does to transform villages through community collaborations and partnerships.
“We believe that community based partnerships are the most effective mechanism to building stronger communities,” said Michael Lacy, board president.
Under its new vision, Transcendence is dedicated to establishing partnerships that stimulate intellectual, economic and social development in area communities.
“Our goal with any collaboration is to enable organizations to leverage community resources,” said La Quetta Bush-Simmons, executive director.
The community partnership priorities of Transcendence are separated into four major categories – education, human welfare, community development and faith-based efforts. Since adopting its new vision, Transcendence has provided support to various organizations and projects
“Collaboration is the key,” said Bush-Simmons. “We believe that by working together with new and established organizations, we can help build stronger communities.”
