Rising Scholars Essay Winners Announced

San Bernardino, Calif. – OneNation Media Services is pleased to announce the winners of its Rising Scholars Essay Contest. The quarterly contest held is in conjunction with the Rising Scholars Book Club, an extra-curricular learning opportunity designed to strengthen reading and writing skills for students and their families. Area high school students ages 13 to 18 are eligible to participate in the program, which meets at the Boys & Girls Club of San Bernardino. Students participating in the Rising Scholars Book Club may compete for a $250 award for the best short essay expressing their thoughts and impressions on selected reading material. The second place winner receives a $150 award.

This first place award was given to Tasha Evans, a 10th grade student attending Eisenhower High School in San Bernardino. The second place award was given to Karen Bucardo, a 12th grade student attending Milor High School in Rialto. Both students submitted essays expressing their thoughts on the famous, “I Have a Dream” speech delivered by Martin Luther King, Jr. on August 28, 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C.

The Rising Scholars Book Club is made possible thanks to a Learning Center grant award from the San Bernardino County Alliance for Education.
